What’s the difference between ceramic tile and porcelain tile?
This is somewhat of a trick question. Both ceramic and porcelain tile are part of the larger classification called ceramic tile. They are divided into two groupings called porcelain tile and non-porcelain tile. The non-porcelain tile is most often referred to as “ceramic tile.”
Porcelain tile is created from a mixture of quartz, clay, and feldspar and fired at a super-high temperature (usually about 2500 degrees Fahrenheit). This makes porcelain tile extremely dense and durable. Porcelain tiles are then glazed with a coating and carefully measured to have a water absorption rate of less than 0.5-percent, making them a great choice for kitchens and bathrooms.
Ceramic tile is fired at a lower temperature (2000 degrees Fahrenheit) giving it a softer composition. This makes it easier to cut and simpler to work with.
Why should I install tile backsplash?
Practically, tile backsplashes protect your wall from water, food, and cooking oil splatter. They can save you hours of cleaning time per month. Kitchen backsplashes also protect from mold and mildew that can build up on other wall surfaces.
Aesthetically, tile backsplashes can really enhance the beauty of your kitchen. When our experts at Floor Coverings International NW Dallas install a tile backsplash in a client’s home, it can instantly become the focal point of the kitchen.
What type of tile do you recommend?
The answer to that question all depends on your wants and needs. Those seeking elegance over practicality may opt for marble tile or glass tile. Homeowners hoping for a cool surface might prefer travertine tiles. Have an outdoor walkway? Maybe natural stone tile is what you’re looking for.
